2024-25 O-Pee-Chee Hockey First Look

The sell sheets for 2024-25 O-Pee-Chee have hit the interwebs, giving us our first look at the designs, parallels, inserts, etc. Take a gander:

base

base border parallels

retro & retro black border parallel

playing cards & O-Pee-Chee Premier

I think the designs overall look fantastic. I’ll complain again about the lack of color in the base design. The retros look pretty cool, though the main version and black border parallel look too similar (at least in the mock-ups).

The set configuration and lineup of parallels and inserts are very similar to the last few releases. High-number short prints will again consist of rookies and all-stars and will have numbered rainbow, rainbow black, rainbow green, and rainbow gold parallels. The full set will have familiar blue, red, and yellow parallels plus new orange border parallels numbered to just 25 copies each. (2021-22 had neon green borders /50, 2022-23 had neon pink borders /75, and 2023-24 had purple borders /49.) While I mostly like the recent configurations, Upper Deck is starting to run the risk of too many consecutive years feeling too similar. (I am already hoping for a bigger refresher for 2025-26—I would start with colorful base borders, bringing back Marquee Legends, scrapping the Premier insert, and introducing a new mini or die-cut insert.)

I mocked up this potential look for the retros when only a black border parallel mock-up had been released. I think I prefer it to the actual retro…

No release date has been set as of this writing. I would guess Upper Deck is again aiming for a February release.
