Ranking the 2026-27 Upper Deck Series 1 Young Guns

The next series of Young Guns is about to explode all over your face. I don’t expect any single card to turn into a monster, but it looks like a solid group. The top three players are good bets to have strong NHL careers. At release time, I do not see much separating them and could have ranked them in any order. Cards 4-10 are more like “maybes,” but have real potential.

1. Porter Martone • RW • Philadelphia Flyers

Porter Martone has an enticing blend of size, skill, and compete. His brief NHL debut last season could not have gone much better; Logan Horn writes, “Martone wasn’t just good enough to hang with his Flyers teammates, he was one of the best players they iced on a daily basis.” Martone’s skating is not a strong point, but “the skill is so special” he still projects as a top-line winger.

2. Anton Frondell • C • Chicago Blackhawks

Anton Frondell has smooth puck skills. He can protect the puck on his stick, make plays to find teammates, or beat goalies on his own. He has posted 11 points in his first 15 NHL games.

3. Cole Hutson • D • Washington Capitals

Cole Hutson (brother of Lane) has “an ultra-creative offensive mind” with the shifty wheels and puck skills to match.
