O-Wai-Sa sports cards is based in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. I collect, sell, trade, blog, and make visual art out of and about sports cards. My main sport of choice is hockey, and I’m particularly enamored with modern O-Pee-Chee hockey cards.
The main focuses of my collection are Henrik Lundqvist, Igor Shesterkin, Mark Messier, Brian Leetch, Adam Fox, Artemi Panarin, K’Andre Miller, and the New York Rangers in general. As for what I have for sale or trade, it could be just about anything hockey, but is heavy on O-Pee-Chee. Check out my inventory on SportLots and eBay to see what is currently available.
What the heck does O-Wai-Sa mean?
O-Wai-Sa is a stylized version of ozhaawanowesi, the Ojibway word for “bluebird,” which appeared in Longfellow’s poem The Song of Hiawatha as “owaissa.” Likewise, the O-Pee-Chee candy and trading card company name came from opichi, the Ojibway word for robin (which appeared in Longfellow’s poem as “opechee”.)
I chose O-Wai-Sa for its similar feel to the almost magical O-Pee-Chee name, plus I like the connection with the bluebird, the state bird of my home state of Missouri.
The logo is a collage I made of a bluebird out of cut hockey cards.
